UML to formally propose KP Oli as PM candidate today


 


Kp sharma oliKATHMANDU, Oct 4: A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the ruling CPN-UML has been called at its Parliamentary Party office, Singha Durbar on Sunday.

The meeting is expected to formally propose its party Chairman KP Sharma Oli as UML’s candidate for the post of new prime minister.

According to a UML central committee member, his party will propose Chairman Oli for both consensus and majority process.

On Friday, President Ram Bara Yadav had called the political parties to elect a new prime minister based on political consensus within seven days on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

In lie with his commitment to step down from the post immediately after the promulgation of the new constitution, Sushil Koirala had recommended president to start the process for electing a new prime minister on Sunday.

Article 298 of the new constitution states that the president shall call for the election to form a new government within seven days of the commencement of the constitution.

In absence of consensus, the new prime minister shall be elected from the parliament through majority vote.
