Arun-III soon, says Finance Minister



Kathmandu, August 5: Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the government would move ahead with the construction work of the Arun-III hydropower project which, he said, is associated with the country’s prosperity.
At a programme organized in his honour by the Bhojpur-Kathmandu Liaison Committee of Nepali Congress in the capital city today, Karki said that the government is committed to constructing the Arun-III project soon. Saying that billions of investment would come to the country after the beginning of the Arun-III project, he said that the government would give momentum to the project which he dubbed an important one for regional and balanced development.
The project of 900 megawatt capacity located in the border area of Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur district is expected to incur Rs 104 billion.
Also speaking at the programme, Minister for Commerce Min Bahadur Bishwakarma pledged his commitment to the development of his ancestral home district, Bhojpur.
He also said that quality production, processing and marketing of Rudrakshya of Bhojpur would be ensured for its international trade.
Similarly, former Finance Minister Shanker Prasad Koirala, student leader Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, Mayor of Shadananda Municipality Bir Bal Rai, chairman of liaison committee Kedar Karki and others too expressed their opinions at the programme.
