NBSM urges NOC to not allow LPG plants without NS certificate

Kathmandu, Jan 4 (RSS): The Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology has urged the Nepal Oil Corporation to not allow the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or cooking gas plants to operate without the Nepal Standard (NS) mark.

In a communiqué to the NOC on Thursday, the NBSM has also urged the state-owned corporation to initiate action against the LPG bottling plants that have failed to get a NS mark as per deadline set by the Bureau in accordance with the Nepal Standard Certification Symbol Act, 2037 B.S. The step taken by the NBSM comes in wake of the concern shown by the public over the safety of such plants following the incident of fire that gutted a LPG bottling plant in Birgunj recently, according to NBSM Director General Biswababu Pudasaini.

As per the law, only industries with NS certification are allowed to operate.

According to the Bureau, so far only Manoj Gas in Birgunj, Nepal Gas in Kathmandu and Srikrishna and Saibaba Gas in Dhading have accquired the mandatory NS certificate.
